About the Department

Dear Students,

Our department, which began its academic activities in 1982 under Anadolu University, became a part of Osmangazi University in 1993 following a legislative regulation, and continues to provide education within this institution with more than 200 students enrolled in the formal education program.

The department consists of five divisions: Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry. Our academic staff, comprising 24 faculty members and 2 research assistants specialized in these fields, maintains international scientific collaborations and carries out numerous projects successfully, supported by NATO, TÜBİTAK, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the private sector, and Eskişehir Osmangazi University.

Within our department, there are four classrooms, three laboratories, and one mini computer laboratory used for undergraduate courses. In these laboratories, students are provided with opportunities to develop themselves under the supervision of research assistants in modern and contemporary conditions.

Additionally, the department hosts 16 research laboratories equipped with modern devices that meet European standards, enabling advanced scientific research for master's and doctoral students.

Students who complete 144 credits—consisting of compulsory courses and laboratory work, as well as courses selected from 15 different elective course groups—are eligible for graduation. Our curriculum and laboratories utilize both traditional and contemporary methods appropriately, aiming to equip students with fundamental chemical knowledge and skills. By increasing the number of elective courses, we also aim to train modern chemists who possess a broad perspective, can think independently, and uphold high ethical standards. Students who meet the academic requirements may also apply to Double Major or Minor programs within our university to obtain an additional diploma or certificate.

Moreover, students have the opportunity to continue their studies abroad for one or two semesters through the ERASMUS and MEVLANA exchange programs, or at another partner university within Türkiye through the FARABİ exchange program.

Graduates who receive comprehensive academic and professional education in the field of chemistry can work as researchers in R&D units of public or private institutions, as practitioners in industrial organizations, or as teachers in the Ministry of National Education or private educational institutions, provided they obtain pedagogical formation training. Our goal is for you to fully benefit from our well-equipped and competent academic environment and to graduate as mature and qualified individuals. We recommend visiting our website for more detailed information about our academic staff and department.

Millions of materials around us—visible or invisible—are composed of a limited number of atoms found in the periodic table. Chemistry is the scientific discipline that examines the structures and properties of these materials, as well as the reactions that transform one substance into another. It also provides the knowledge needed to modify the properties of existing materials to meet specific needs and to design new materials with desired characteristics. There is virtually no field in which chemistry does not play a role. The number of patents held by a country is considered an indicator of its level of development and economic strength, and when patent distributions are examined, the field of chemistry is prominently represented. Globally, Chemistry is considered a distinguished discipline that admits successful students and whose graduates readily find positions in professional life.
